In only ten days time the Exeter Music Group Symphony Orchestra returns to Exeter Cathedral to perform two glorious orchestral works. Marion Wood has been preparing the musicians for several weeks, rehearsing at St Peter's School in Exeter and also at Kay House on the University of Exeter Campus.

In addition to the amazing Marion Wood, another musical star will be returning to Exeter. Alexandra Dariescu was at this year's Budleigh Festival on 28th July thrilling the audience with Beethoven, Liszt, Wagner, Chopin - and Constantin Silvestri's 'Danse Bacchanale' (details). Alexandra will be the soloist in Tchaikovsky's First Piano Concerto. Until she arrives, however, her place is taken by a very suitable understudy. Ukranian piano tutor Natallia Iuchanca brings just the energy and vivacity we shall expect from Alexandra when she arrives. One of Natallia's pupils, Andy Yu, also gets his chance to gain solo experience - playing the slower movements and even the opening chords of the Stravinsky.

The rehearsals are so much fun, there can be no question about the quality of the concert we're going to enjoy at the Cathedral on the 24th. As usual plenty of photos - with the professional help of EMG committee member and photographer, Nigel Cheffers-Heard.
