Sound of the South West with Exeter University
On 3 and 4 March 2012 the BBC and the London Organising Committee of the Olympic Games and Paralympic Games (LOCOG) will present Music Nation, a spectacular weekend of music around the UK to set the scene and create excitement in the lead up to the London 2012 Festival, the finale of the Cultural Olympiad.

This event is presented by Exeter Music Office, ExTunes, the music societies of Exeter University and musicians across the South West of England.
Family Music Afternoon
3 March, 2.00pm - 6.00pm
Kay House Duryard, Exeter University
The aim of the afternoon is to learn to play "Olympic Rings", an interlocking rhythm piece that's been created especially for the occasion, using rhythms from 5 continents. Stamping, clapping and hitting everyday objects, The Olympic Rings will then be performed as part of Music to Celebrate the Olympics at 7pm on Sunday 4 March in the Great Hall. In the breaks there will be a chance to build a hosepipe brass instrument, or try out steel pans and African drums!
Music to Celebrate the Olympics

Great Hall, Exeter University
The University of Exeter Music Office, Choral Society, Concert Band, Symphony Orchestra, Clarinet and Flute Choirs and others join forces with groups from the City of Exeter and wider Devon to bring you an evening of "Music to celebrate the Olympics".
In the first half, massed Ensembles and Orchestras present great British
favourites: Elgar's "Nimrod", Holst's "Mars" and "Jupiter", plus a new compilation of sea songs from around the world to celebrate the International Community of Exeter.
The second half brings you Handel's "Hallelujah" chorus and the Finale of Beethoven's Symphony No.9: "Ode to Joy".
