South West Youth Orchestra & South West Music School - time is running out for late applications - full details from Programmes Manager Sophie Brewer

So modest on air . . .
South West Music School's Programmes Manager
and accomplished musician
Sophie Brewer
playing her flute at the East Devon Choral Society's
performance of Peter Milmer's 'Requiem'
at Exeter Cathedral (Saturday 8th October 2012)

There was a very special guest on this morning's 'Classical Journey'. Sophie Brewer telephoned the studio from the South West Music School offices in Exeter.

Sophie is a very accomplished flute player and music teacher. (See Sophie in action with young students, in the photo-post 'Great Fun at the EMG Open Rehearsal'.) She also manages the teaching programmes of the South West Music School.

She had news about opportunities for young people in Devon and the South West to join the School and/or the South West Youth Orchestra - and to encourage people to look into the possibility quickly before the cut-off dates.

Full details below - and at the South West Music School Website

SOUTH WEST MUSIC SCHOOL APPLICATIONS

FOR ALL TALENTED YOUNG MUSICIANS AND COMPOSERS:
DEADLINE 11TH MAY 2012

South West Music School is a music charity working
with talented young instrumentalists, singers and composers
aged 8-18yrs in the South West.

Owing to the geographical nature of the South West
we are not building based but are a 'virtual' school
working with young people on an individual basis in their local area.

For singers and instrumentalists of any instrument or genre,
the programme is in two parts.

Students start on the Feeder Scheme,
a year-long programme consisting of 6 workshops
in different venues across the South West.

The Feeder Scheme then ‘feeds’ into the Core Programme,
the main instrumental and vocal part of South West Music School,
consisting of mentoring, individual tuition and residential projects.

Performing musicians can audition to join South West Music School
from age 8-16yrs and can stay on the programme until they are 18yrs old.

For Composers, South West Music School has formed a partnership
with ‘Sound and Music’ to provide a package of specialist mentoring,
individual tuition and residential projects for talented young composers.
This training and education will be led and guided by composers
from the professional music world who have a proven record
of successful work in music training.

Composition students can apply to join South West Music School
