Gabriel Prokofiev, founder of the Nonclassical label and grandson of Sergei Prokofiev, visits Exeter to celebrate our first year of Nonclassical @ the Bike Shed. The East-London based composer will be DJing alongside live performances from free improvisation group, Half Moon Assemblage, and other
local musicians. 'Half Moon Assemblage' is a free improvisation group, normally a trio comprising Elie Fruchter, Lona Kozik and Sam Richards. As well giving concerts of improvised music they have also given university seminars, led improvisation workshops and played new music for old silent
movies. The night will also feature local student and DJ Michael Brailey, performing pieces for solo violin & tape by Jeremy Thurlow and Anna Meredith, as well as a newly formed ensemble made up of performers from throughout the year: Ruth Molins, Peter Nickol and Hannah Willson.

Tickets are £5

Doors open at 7pm. Live music from 8pm. Please arrive early for a good seat!

“The Nonclassical record label comes to Exeter with concerts of the very best in avant-garde music from the UK, and particularly Devon” - Phonic FM

"Classical music can be part of everyone’s lives and this night is part of rediscovering its relevance." Nonclassical.co.uk

Nonclassical @ The Bike Shed is an exciting new performance platform which began at Exeter's Bike Shed on 2nd October. We are passionate about showing people that 'classical music' is not a thing of the past and that new ' classical music' can be enjoyed and appreciated by everyone.

Gabriel Prokofiev, (grandson of Sergei Prokofiev) is at the forefront of this exciting new music scene in London. We had the pleasure to meet and work with him at the Edinburgh Festival in 2010 with JUTP Music (a youth string orchestra from devon: www.jutp.org<http://www.facebook.com/l.php?u=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.jutp.org&h=gAQFPXG0F&s=1>) and that is where the idea of bring his events to Exeter began. The Bike Shed Theatre has a growing reputation for its inovative work and is the perfect setting for Nonclassical.

The launch of Nonclassical @ the Bike Shed Theatre presented innovative music sets including Gabriel Prokofiev’s String Quartet No. 1, the meditative ‘Koan’ by James Tenny performed by Icebreaker’s violinist Emma Welton and new work from the talented young composer Michael Brailey (a
winner of the 2011 BBC Proms Inspire Young Composers' Competition). Since, we have seen talented flautist Ruth Molins and pianist Rebecca Willson come through our doors. In June we heard solo guitarist and composer Paul McGuire (MA student at Brunel University) and local students Rosie Lester
and Zoe Mack, and in July we heard cellist Hannah Willson and pianist Peter Nickol's original compositions.
