GLENORCHY LUNCHTIME CONCERTS
These run every Wednesday from the first Wednesday of October to the end of April with a break of 3 weeks or so over Christmas and the New Year. They commence at 12.30 and last for about three quarters of an hour. They are free, but there is a retiring collection which goes to some specific object within Glenorchy Church. Last season it was for new cookers in our Hall kitchen and as the cost was more than the amount raised we will go on with the same objective until Christmas. The Hall is used a great deal by many “outside” organisations and is probably the best hall in the town now. Coffees and teas are always available in the Hall before the concerts from about 12 noon.
The Concerts are always classical music or sometimes light classical and are given by artists from Exmouth and the surrounding area. The church has a very good grand piano so this is used most weeks either as an accompaniment to singers or instrumentalists or quite often in its own right either solo or duet. Instrumentalists have included piano trio (violin, cello and piano) singers (soprano, mezzo soprano, baritone) cello, organ (sometimes organ and piano together) flute, clarinet, guitar, Sidmouth Orchestra, recorder quartet.
As it happens, I'm doing the first concert (on Wednesday 2nd Oct) and will be doing a facebook event thing for it in a minute (any spreading of the word appreciated!)...
